In “1:40 a.m. Titanic Time, April 15, 1912” Jim Clary painted what is considered the descriptive painting of the Titanic disaster, and the only bow-own perspective of her sinking. With assistance from the University of Michigan’s Department of Astronomy, he painted, one-by-one, the actual stars based on her last known coordinates. It was this signature brand of attention to detail that earned him a place on the 1983 Titanic expedition. In fact, it was a specific piece of overlooked information he uncovered during his years of research that led to her actual discovery on the ocean floor.
